K-12 Focused Network Security Vendor Envisions Mashups with Edu Apps

Lightspeed Systems All-Inclusive Solution Integrating with SIS, Safe Search, More

Bakersfield, Calif.—June 30, 2008— Lightspeed Systems, developer of innovative security software products specifically for the educational market, is pursuing integration with a variety of school products while envisioning a Web 2.0 future where information mashups are the norm. Mashups are a type of interactive Web applications that retrieve content from external data sources to create entirely new and innovative services.

Taking steps toward this future, Lightspeed Systems has integrated with

  • Eagle Software's Aeries Student Information System to display student Internet activity within the SIS reports
  • Thinkronize's netTrekker d.i. to ensure each safe search result is accessible
  • NComputing desktop virtualization to provide user authentication and security

Logan Lemming, network administrator for El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) in California, said, "We like information, but we have information in a lot of places, and it may not be useful where it resides. Our administrators interact with the SIS, not tech." About seventy-five percent of EDCOE's sixteen districts have been using Eagle Software's Aeries Student Information System for years. Soon that number will increase to ninety percent as the county office helps districts configure Lightspeed's Total Traffic Control content filtering during the summer months. With both products deployed, Lemming looks forward to "mashing up our services."

Lightspeed's all-inclusive security suite, Total Traffic Control, helps enforce acceptable use policies and manage network traffic for optimal performance and availability. It includes on- and off-network content filtering, multi-pronged proxy blocking, spam management, email archiving, gateway and desktop security, bandwidth management, and extensive network and user activity reports.
