Lightspeed Systems Upgrades Total Traffic Control Software and Releases ‘Feature Tracker’
Total Traffic Control 7.03 features Educational Video Library enhancements and enables districts to save time and money through tiered IT administration and server consolidation
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – June 25, 2009 – Lightspeed Systems Inc., a leader in network security and management software for schools, has made several upgrades to its Total Traffic Control software to better meet the needs of mid-to-large size school districts and provide enhancements to the recently released Educational Video Library feature. Additionally, the company has launched Lightspeed Feature Tracker to better facilitate the exchange of product improvement ideas from customers.
Total Traffic Control is a comprehensive school network security and management application with a full range of features that simplify IT administration and provide a single, cost-effective solution. Total Traffic Control combines content filtering, mobile filtering, spam management, bandwidth management, antivirus protection, e-mail archiving, desktop and gateway security, and extensive reporting capabilities. Total Traffic Control comprises several components: Email Manager, Security Manager, Web Access Manager, and Network Traffic Manager.
A key part of Web Access Manager is the Educational Video Library, which enables educators to safely use YouTube videos for classroom instruction without exposing students to inappropriate content or risking network security. Approved YouTube videos are displayed through a portal on the local network. All of YouTube's video functions operate normally, but the community information and links that are usually displayed on the YouTube Web site, such as promoted videos and user comments, are removed. District administrators can designate teachers and staff to submit and/or review videos for classroom use, and videos are categorized and tagged for easy searching.
With the new version of Total Traffic Control, districts can import videos en masse from YouTube channels into the Educational Video Library, and opt into sharing their approved videos with other districts around the country that are using the software. The Educational Video Library also features more categories for labeling and organizing videos to improve search capabilities.
Other new features in Total Traffic Control 7.03 enable districts to run the application from a centralized server. District administrators can consolidate servers, reducing money and time spent on IT management. To help mid-to-large size districts further minimize workload demands on already understaffed IT departments, Total Traffic Control provides tiered administration, which allows IT directors to easily assign network management tasks to staff members and capture detailed reports as needed.
Educators always have been an integral part of the product development process at Lightspeed Systems, but the new Lightspeed Feature Tracker provides an easier way for customers to be involved in product enhancements and modifications, monitor progress, and help improve the user experience. The Feature Tracker allows customers to submit ideas and search, comment and vote on others’ suggestions for product improvements. Customers can track their favorite ideas and be notified when action has been taken. The Lightspeed Systems team reviews the list to prioritize suggestions based on comments and popularity before deciding which new features to place in development.
The Total Traffic Control software can be customized to fit a school’s unique needs, and deployed on any number of servers and desktops under a single license. Its components can be purchased individually, or in tailored bundles. Pricing starts at $13 per workstation for the Total Traffic Control suite.
